Today I went with four 18 year olds from the Reserve to Rancho Le Merced for horse riding. It was round their estate/ grounds, by the river and through the forest for 1 3/4 hours.
Our taxi arrived – it was luxury

Most of our group had not ridden before, and those of us who had- were pretty inexperienced.
They got us onto the horses one-by-one and I was left til last. I was the only person who was asked if I needed a stool to get on the horse (probably because I was old) but I was determined to get on without the stool and thankfully managed it perfectly well!
Despite our inexperience the horses, were well trained and knew what they were doing. So much so, that when we turned left to extend the walk, they all wanted to go right to go home, and stopped and then didn’t want to move. Our guide had to gee each of our horses up to follow him, and eventually they did.

It was so nice to see the scenery on horseback and not have to negotiate the rough terrain. The horses did so well. I wanted to take mine back so that he could walk through all the water and mud on the way to the beach patrol 😀.

My horse was called Atilla – he was great. He wanted to be at the front following the guide. Apparently the guide’s horse was his ‘amigo’.
We saw a few animals along the way and some Macaws up in the trees. We could hear the Howler Monkeys in the distance.

Towards the end of our trek we could hear the thunder rumbling and we knew that rain was on its way. Eventually it started lightly raining but we were nearly back at the base. After we dismounted and we’re safely under cover the rain crashed down, and we had a very wet taxi journey home.
One day left at the Reserve then I leave for my flight home on Tuesday 😢
