Last night I did the 10pm to 1.30am Beach Patrol.
It was a full moon so the beach was completely lit up and we didn’t need to use our torches for most of the time.
The last couple of times I have done Beach Patrol I have not seen a turtle or a nest but this time our guide spotted one in the shallow part of the sea. The turtle seemed to be heading back to the sea but it wasn’t tagged which meant it is a new turtle nesting. So we had to hold onto her, measure her and tag her before letting her go. She wasn’t too happy about that and was trying to get away- she was so strong! We let her go back to the sea then we tried to search for a nest but couldn’t find one, but could see some areas she had walked. It’s probable that she couldn’t find a suitable place so turned round and went back.

Also the penny dropped last night and I realised the Spanish word for Turtle is Tortuga! It’s only taken nearly 3 weeks !
So Playa Tortuga = Turtle Beach in English 🙄

Being at the beach at night is an amazing experience. Each night is different dependent on the moonlight, whether there is a storm above the sea, whether the tide is in or out. It is always so peaceful and unspoilt. Getting to the beach and back is a mission; either walking the long way via the busy road then the path with mud and puddles, or wading through the tidal river (if the tide is out) but it’s worth it to experience the beach, and the possibility of seeing a turtle.
One more night patrol for me 1.30-5am on Monday so praying that I see a turtle for my last time 🙏🏻🐢
Yesterdays joke
What do you call a truck full of sea turtles crashing into a train full of terrapins?
Answer…a turtle disaster!
Todays joke…
What’s something a turtle can’t do when you put it on its back?
