Here at the reserve there is a butterfly project. This just for learning about butterflies so that possibly in the future the reserve can have a butterfly project where they look after and breed butterflies for conservation purposes.
We had to check how many caterpillars there were in the enclosures, clean out the droppings and put in fresh leaves and water.
Then we had to check the chysalis cabinet to see if any butterflies had emerged. If there was a butterfly we would check with the chart what sex it was – then mark a number on with a pen, then record all the details.
The butterfly would then be released into the enclosure.
We also then collected eggs from the leaves in the enclosure to hatch into caterpillars.


These are the two species currently in the enclosure. These were both males.
